Festival of Lights at Ushijima Shrine

Ushijima Shrine was built in the 2nd year of Jogan (860) by the prophecy of Jikaku Daishi.

The temple's great festival is held every five years, famous for its traditional procession by ox cart to pray for the well-being of the people in this area.

If you pay attention, you will rarely find a Torii gate at any shrine that is decorated with LED lights like at Ushijima Shrine! From the temple gate, you can see the Skytree tower in the distance.

All the lit bamboo tubes on display at Ushijima Shrine are made by artisans and children from surrounding elementary schools.

If in the morning, the temple is quite quiet located in Sumida Park, in the evening with twinkling lights, the temple attracts many tourists to visit.
